Dr. Bemiller is interested in the intersections of gender, crime/deviance and the family. Her research focuses on the experiences of marginalized groups in society. In particular, Dr. Bemiller has studied "deviant" mothers (e.g., women who do not have custody of their children, incarcerated mothers), domestic and family violence, the role of sexist humor in perpetuating inequalities, and women's experiences working within the Criminal Justice System. Dr. Bemiller offers courses in general Sociology (Principles of Sociology, Social Problems) as well as courses in Applied Criminal Justice (Criminal Justice, Corrections, Criminology, Women and the Criminal Justice System, and Crime, Media and Culture).
